Romans chapter 14 and 15a

Romans Theme
14:1-12 Now accept the one who is weak in faith, but not for the purpose of passing judgment on his opinions (v. 1).
14:13-23 Rather determine this – not to put an obstacle or a stumbling block in a brother’s way (v. 13).
15:1-13 Therefore, accept one another, just as Christ also accepted us to the glory of God (v. 7).

“Deliver Such a One to Satan”

“Deliver Such a One to Satan”

The church at Corinth had a problem which they did nothing about.

Paul writes to them to tell them what to do about the situation (1Cor. 5).

Since similar situations can arise today, we should take another look at this passage

We’ve seen … “Deliver Such a One to Satan” (1Cor. 5:5)

  1. The situation at Corinth
  2. The prescribed remedy
  3. Why deliver such a one to Satan” (1Cor. 5:5)?

(a)  It is commanded!

(b)  For the sinner’s good.

(c)  For the good of the church.

  1. A happy ending

Like Corinth, there may be a time when we have to do some “house cleaning”!

  • We hope not, of course. But if so, then let’s not shirk from our task!
  • Sin needs to be shown for what it is.
  • This is for the good of both the sinner and the church!

1Cor. 11:3-16 has been often misunderstood, mainly because many (including even some translators) add
words to the passage which are not there.

The Theme/Subject of the Bible

The Bible is comprised of 39 OT books and 27 NT books = 66 books in total.
 What’s it all about?
Today’s lesson:

The Theme/Subject of the Bible

1. The Hebrew Scriptures (predominantly the OT) = Christ is coming!
2. The so-called Gospels (so-called Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) = Christ has come!

3. The rest of the NT books = Christ is coming again!

We have several recently baptized Christians among us who might like to have an overview of the
contents of the Bible.
 And those of us who have been Christians much longer can always benefit from reminders.

Lessons

  1. Nobaptism with the HStoday, despite the claims of the false teachers to the contrary (cf. # 1 above).
  2. But there is indwelling of the HS today (= sealing, strengthening, interceding, etc.) for those who become Christians (cf. # 2 above) – rejoice!
  • Recall Isa 44:3 ‘For I will pour out water on the thirsty land And streams on the dry ground; I will pour out My Spirit on your offspring And My blessing on your descendants;
  1. No miraculous gifts of the HS today (e.g., tongues, prophecy, healings), despite the claims of the false teachers to the contrary (cf. # 3 above).
