Jesus said “I am …”

Jesus said “I am …

Why are we gathering together this morning?

  • There are no doubt many good reasons: obedience to God (Heb. 10:25), worship of God (Jn. 4:24), encouraging one another, (1Cor. 14:26), etc.
  • But surely a very important reason is because of who Jesus is!
Jesus said “I am …
1. I am the bread of life (John 6:35,41,48,51)
2. I am the light of the world (8:12; 9:5)
3. I am (8:58)
4. I am the door (10:7,9)
5. I am the good shepherd (10:11,14)
6. I am the Son of God (10:36)
7. I am the resurrection and the life (11:25)
8. I am the way, and the truth, and the life (14:6)
9. I am the true vine (15:1,5)

Was John a Baptist?

Was John a Baptist?

  1. John was “A VOICE OF ONE CRYING IN THE WILDERNESS
  2. John was a man of godly parents
  3. John was a man with a godly purpose
  4. John was a man who denied himself
  5. John said “change your ways”
  6. John pointed people to Jesus
  7. John was courageous

We may feel that we are crying in a wilderness today:

  • We are surrounded by denominations who have digressed from the truth!

But let’s continue to be committed to the Lord and do His will, as John did!

Lessons

  1. Nobaptism with the HStoday, despite the claims of the false teachers to the contrary (cf. # 1 above).
  2. But there is indwelling of the HS today (= sealing, strengthening, interceding, etc.) for those who become Christians (cf. # 2 above) – rejoice!
  • Recall Isa 44:3 ‘For I will pour out water on the thirsty land And streams on the dry ground; I will pour out My Spirit on your offspring And My blessing on your descendants;
  1. No miraculous gifts of the HS today (e.g., tongues, prophecy, healings), despite the claims of the false teachers to the contrary (cf. # 3 above).

The Covenants

The Covenants

There is much false teaching today concerning The Covenants.
We’ll see in today’s lesson:
 The old covenant began at Sinai ( 1450 BC) and ended at the death of Christ ( AD 30).
 The new covenant began at the death of Christ ( AD 30) and has no end (while the earth remains).
Note:
 The Jewish nation continued to exist politically until the Roman invasion and destruction of Jerusalem
in AD 70.

1. Old and New Covenants
2. Old and New High Priests
3. Old and New Laws

 The old covenant was started in the time of Moses, by the offering of animal sacrifices.
 The new covenant was started by the shedding of Jesus’ blood on the cross.
 At that time the old covenant ended, and there was a change in God’s laws, so that we are no longer under the laws of the old covenant.

Four (4) of Jesus’ Thought-Provoking Questions

  1. Isn’t life more than food or clothing?
  2. Who do you say that I am?
  3. Why do you keep on saying that I am your Lord, when you refuse to do what I say?
  4. You do not want to go away also, do you?

Jesus often asked questions:

  • not because He didn’t know or wasn’t sure about the answers,
  • but to provoke others to careful thought – to cause people to think very seriously about something.
