Lessons Learned Too Late

1st Kings 13

The man of God began with courage and devotion to God, but very sadly ended in tragedy.

Lessons to be learned:

  1. Religious people don’t always tell the truth.
  2. Sincerity alone does not make things right.
  3. Earlier obedience will not cover later disobedience.
  4. God means what He says.

The man of God learned these lessons too late to do him any good.

  • Will we avoid making the same mistake he did?

Miracles of the Cross

Several miracles are recorded as having taken place around the time of the cross of Jesus.

How many of these six (6) so-called “miracles of the cross” can you name?

Jn. 20:30-31  Therefore many other signs Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; 31  but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.

Robbing people of Salvation using a dead robber

Many people are being taught to neglect baptism today, and are thereby being robbed of the opportunity to be saved.

  • How wrong! How sad!
  • How can we expose this great lie.

1.  Jesus and the thief died on their respective crosses.

2.  Jesus rose from the dead the third day.

3.  Jesus was with His apostles 40 days before ascending into heaven.

4.  About 10 days later the power came and the preaching began!

5.  Then the baptising also began!

So what about that thief on the cross …

(i) They say that thief “wasn’t baptised”

(ii) That thief lived and died too early for baptism “in the name of Jesus” (Acts 2:38)

(iii) Baptism “in the name of Jesus” requires Jesus’ resurrection to have taken place

(iv) We are not living when that thief did!

Wisdom from Above

  • 1:26 For consider your calling, brethren, that there were not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble;
    • 1:30-31 But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption, 31 so that, just as it is written, “LET HIM WHO BOASTS, BOAST IN THE LORD.”

But we’ve seen:

James 3:17  But the wisdom from above is
1. first pure,
2. then peaceable,
3. gentle,
4. reasonable,
5. full of mercy
6. and good fruits,
7. unwavering,
8. without hypocrisy.

Note Proverbs 2:6  For the LORD gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.
